15 years married

15 years married

It’s our 15th wedding anniversary today and I have blessed with the funniest card (I ‘loaf’ you with a picture of 2 pieces of bread on it! Dad jokes for the win) and a gorgeous bunch of flowers… and a day to spend with one of my clients without being made to feel bad that I’m working… mainly, I believe, because Dom also needed to work! Hahahha!
#winningatmarriage

We make it this far without trials and tribulations, though. Some big and some small. It’s been quite the ride.

As I was thinking about or Anniversary, the things we’ve been through and all the things that we’ve worked on, failed at and re-worked on I realised that marriage is so very similar to business!

When you first start out in business, there’s all the love, passion and flurry of activity! It’s easy to go the extra mile. To travel the distance. To focus on the good. To look for new fun ways to stay inspired and entertained.

But as the years go on, it’s not as easy, right? You can slump. You can find yourself taking things for granted.

You can start focussing on the things you don’t like. That tire you.

It can feel like you lose the passion. You lose the fire. The spark. The sparkle.

And you have to find the way to come back together. To reignite it.

It takes communication. Honesty. Commitment. Grit.

And eventually it comes back.

In a marriage you might date your spouse. In business you need to date your business!

Find the passion.

Find the joy.

Find the fun again.

Find the desire to create.

To build and create beautiful things.

To change lives.

To create impact.

The good thing about being in things for the long haul, is you know they’ll swing back around, right?

You know that there is potential.

You know that there is a way that you can find yourself again.

And that’s the thing with your business. It’s like a marriage. Good days. Bad days. Days that stink. Putting up with the boring bits and revelling in the fun bits.

Would you really really REALLY have it any other way?

Happy Anniversary to us, I say!

And I hope you get to celebrate many many business anniversaries, too. (This year for me it will be 11 years. ELEVEN! That’s nuts!).
