There are so many pieces of clothing out there that are MADE to do wonderous things for your figure!!! The way that pieces of fabric are joined together, their structure, their flo…all made to flatter your individual shape!
(I am going to direct this to the lovely ladies, but it’s also applicable to men.)
We’ve all heard that horizontal stripes do nothing for a figure, right? Do you know why though? If you picture a line going across the page, your eye is drawn from one end of it to another. Therefore, if you are wearing a top that has horizontal stripes, a persons eye is drawn from one end of the line to the other! Guess what! Even if you’re not wide, it can make you seem wider than what you actually are!!!
The clever use of lines can create shape where perhaps there isn’t any. A great example of this is a bodysuit that Bardot has on their website at the moment!! If you have a look at the Iggy Stripe Bodysuit, it has horizontal stripes combined with vertical and diagonal stripes to create a shape that is curvy!’
Strategically placed buttons that run down the centre of the body also can create vertical lines, which draws the eye to the middle of the body and straight down rather than focussing on the ‘width’ of the body!
This can be great for shorter people who want to give the illusion of appearing taller than they are!
So, keep your eyes peeled for the way that the stripes run, or even the way that seems run. If a piece has seams that start in the centre of the body and flow out, it is going to make your eyes follow the line out from the body, which can make you look larger than you are (eg. Baby doll tops that have gathering under the bust and then flowing seams running out from the bust towards the hip line).
Most of all, have fun!!
