THE LAND OF STRUGGLE
If you feel like you’re living in the Land of Struggle and perhaps you’re the Queen of Struggle Town, this is where I am calling on you to dig deep. ????????
I need you to find a way to keep going.
Why?
Because chances are your audience are going to need to hear from YOU. The members in your town, your posse, your royal subjects need to hear and know that they are not alone. For they, too, are likely to be living in their own struggle towns at different times.
If you’ve felt like or you feel like this, there are some things you need to move through in order to pack up and leave town!
When we land in Struggle Town, it’s like a quiet ole country town where everyone knows everyone. Imagine walking into the main street of a western movie. People sitting on their porches, looking up and seeing you walk on in. Realising that you’re not from around here.
You see, you normally live in The Land of The Brave & Fearless but today, for some reason, you’ve walked in, stolen the crown and owned this town like it’s a pair of Gucci slides.
As you walk into town, someone befriends you and you go sit outside the bar (yes, the one with the swinging brown doors). There’s dust everywhere. The dust even makes a distinct sound underfoot as you mooch along the floorboards.
As you lower yourself down into the creaky old chair, you know that this is the the last thing you should do…but you’re weary. You’re a bit tired… and… the creaking floor boards are somewhat comforting. You sit in the chair, rock back and forth a little and even though it’s not comfortable, it’s not the worst thing in the world either.
Your new friend talks all about struggle town. How long they’ve lived there. All the challenges that they’ve faced. The shoot-outs they’ve witnessed. The ‘posh folk’ who come in here and seem to breeze right on out without a moments thought nor attention paid to the fine folk of Struggle Town.
They go on and on and on. Some people over the way notice that the tales of Struggle Town are being shared with someone new and so they come over as well and start sharing their struggle town stories.
As you sit in the chair, you notice that you start to feel a bit claustrophobic. Usually you are positive and upbeat and energised and this Struggle Town Talk is bringing you down even more.
With each sentence of woe that is shared, down and down and down you go.
You notice that all the people around you have slumped shoulders. Their faces are dried and weathered, mouths twisted in a bitter-like scowl that goes perfectly with their tales of woe. You ask how long they’ve been there and the general reply is forever.
You figure at this point, that you have to do something. Do something different. Because if this is the life that is meant for someone who is a Queen no matter where she goes (yes, even in The Land of Struggle), then you don’t want it.
You deserve more than this. Better than this. You deserve brightness and happiness and tales of joy. You deserve tales of success and triumph. You deserve to hear about how people go about helping other people, achieving wonderous things. Not to mention the invention of new and fandangled things born from creative minds.
You realise, as you’re sitting there, that you have a choice. A choice RIGHT NOW to stay in this godforsaken town with it’s creaky floor, dust and whinging whining town folk who seem to do nothing but want to keep a good person down.. OR… you can choose to leave.
To shake it off. Let it go. And walk out there with your head held high while you respectfully share with the town folk that you are no longer available for this kind of life. That you are no longer going to even visit a place where the weight of the world seems to be literally on everyone’s shoulders.
You hoist yourself up and out of the chair. Dust yourself off. And you remind them of who you are. That you are in fact, The Queen of Everything! That you are in fact an amazing, creative, optimistic person who wants the COLOUR in her world.
That anything less is like sticking your finger up to your creator and shunning the gifts and talents that you’ve been given – ones that you know help so many people out there in the world.
And with that, you leave Struggle Town. It’s not even nice to visit. It’s not even a town that won a Tidy Town award. Bye Struggle Town. I’m done. You look back and notice that there are a few people watching you leave. They square off their shoulders and look to you for the nod of acknowledgement and encouragement. Maybe they can leave too….. and they do.
Leaving Struggle Town can be a challenge, can’t it? I mean, knowing that there are other people around you who struggle isn’t the only reason that you want to change your state and do something different, though, right?
I mean, for many of us (me included) sometimes I like to indulge a little on the porch for a bit and wallow in self pity! Why self pity? Well, if things aren’t quite going right – be it you’re a bit tired, cranky, not making the money you want, things not working, feeling unloved… the thing is that you don’t want to sit there for long.
And you sure as shit don’t want to be making friends with people in Struggle Town, because, as the saying goes “misery loves company”.
Some things that I do to get out of there is journal. I’ll journal and journal and journal and journal till I feel like my whole heart is that book. Other times I’ll make sure I go skating and skate and skate and skate. Other times, I’ll go to the gym, load up weights and work my body HARD.
One of the main things I’ll do though, is talk to someone I trust implicitly. Lay it all out there and allow her to tell me some truths. She allows me the space to do my thing but then helps me to get back and get back FAST.
Who does that for YOU?
There are a bunch of things that can trigger a visit to struggle town:
☠︎Things like fear.
☠︎Feeling like you’re not good enough.
☠︎Worrying about money.
☠︎Worrying about delivery of your service.
☠︎Wondering if things are going to change.
☠︎Thinking about the worst-case scenarios and allowing
that to become all-consuming rather than the positive.
☠︎Not doing the work on your mindset.
☠︎Thoughts of scarcity around time.
☠︎Guilt.
☠︎Not working in your zone of genius.
☠︎Not doing the work that you’re here to do.
☠︎Not sharing your message for the day.
☠︎Not creating the space for that message to come out.
☠︎Feeling stifled.
☠︎Not feeling heard.
☠︎Not feeling seen.
☠︎Not feeling valued.
I could probably list a whole lot more… but you get the point.
????????We’ve all got to have someone in our corner who we can rely on to be there. Someone who has our back.
Who’s got yours?
<3
