GO IN TO STEP UP

Stepping into the new version of you requires you to TAP IN as well as step up..

We can all look for inspiration outside of ourselves, which, of course, is fine for a while… until it’s not. The inspiration you’re seeking is, in fact, within you. It’s just a matter of tapping in and finding it.

I had a memory pop up this morning on the way to the gym about my very first external-to-work speaking engagement. It was for a young professionals event and I was talking about the power of inner confidence and importantly not being caught up in what other people think of you. On the day of the event, however, I lost my voice! Yep. Gone. I had to have honey and lemon on stage with me and I was petrified that my voice just wouldn’t work. It did. It was tough. But man, did it hurt!

It was a big deal for me, to be talking about something important to me. I was that person who was always worried about other people thought of me. It’s been ‘the thing’ that I have worked on most, actually, over the years. And, much like with anything new, we really do like to have that external validation that what we’re doing and what we’re saying is going to be received and that we’re liked!!

I remember, though, feeling like I was `100% taking the risk and ‘suck it and see’ mentality. I wasn’t so much caught up in the ‘trying to make everything perfect’ type of thing. #recoveringperfectionist.

Funny how when we’re starting out, we’re a bit more BRAVE. We’re willing to give almost anything a go.. yet.. a few years on, we’re a lot more invested and tend to become a lot more fearful and protective of screwing up – our persona, our reputation and even how we show up.

I remember saying to a mentor “let’s just do it! Vomit. I wonder what will happen”.. And I did what was suggested because I didn’t have a reference point for things with working or not working. I was totally not hung up on the outcome and didn’t really have anything to lose!

As years went on, my bravery shifted a bit. I became a bit more, well comfortable in where I was and who I am…but also know I was being called for MORE and that, as we know, means stretching beyond what you know and what you’ve already done.

We all need to go within to decide what it is that we really want and act a bit more fearlessly like we did at the start.

For me, I’ve done this multiple times and feel like I shed layers or skins of me as I grew and found new facts to shine out to the world. At the start, I had the attitude of “Well, if it doesn’t work, I’ll be ok! There are options” and as we carry on that feeling tends to be more constricting.. we FEEL like we have a bit more to lose.

You don’t have ‘more to lose’… only yourself if you keep ignoring the call to more.

It’s time to look back in. Reinvent. Reinvigorate and recalibrate.

That’s what it’s going to take for you to continue to build and grow in this day and age.
