The Divinyl’s famous sang that there’s a fine line between pleasure and pain and when it comes to business I don’t necessarily disagree. I mean… how many of us are motivated by getting away from pain to get to pleasure and vice versa.
Humans are so fascinating to me and because I am one (as well as being a spiritual being, of course) I know that I for one am someone who tends to be more motivated, faster if I’m moving away from pain than I am moving towards pleasure.
The thought of being broke, not fulfilling my life purpose, not doing all that I can possibly do is usually enough to get me moving. However. Something that I also know about me is that I have an incredibly high tolerance for pain. I can sit in it for a long time and it can feel really tough to get out of it.
Conversely, the pull towards a goal achieved if I’m sitting pretty comfortable really isn’t enough to push me forward either.
You see, we need to find leverage. We need to find a way of making things happen. Of getting us up and out of the place that we’re in right now and into a state where we’ll do what we need to do.
It’s hard when you’re ‘comfortable’ to find a way to push forward.
Yet, you need the leverage if you’re going to get to the next level. It’s the only way to make it happen.
I, for one, am very driven by adrenalin, momentum, fast moving things! I love snowboarding, high octane sports – I play roller derby for goodness sakes!!!! – and I love the thrill of the chase…so for me I find it hard to dig in deeper and access the grit like I used to do, because chasing a goal that isn’t thrilling is a bit, well, boring.
So how can YOU get leverage over yourself? How can raise the bar even more?
Whatcha gonna do about it!??!
I created an audio for my Facebook group on this today – if you want to join the group you’ll find the audio in there: https://www.facebook.com/groups/nicolamoras
It’s free! You’ll love it.
