The pebble that creates the ripple

The pebble that creates the ripple

You might be a bit surprised to hear that I don’t always know what I’m going to talk about

On a daily basis. I mean, that statement is not strictly true… I always know that there will be something hopefully inspiring or motivating or ass kicking or educational in what I share. And it will always relate to business on some level…

I normally do a video on the daily, where I show up LIVE (and fabulous, of course!) on my page for The Coffee Run LIVE … today was episode #541  It’s crazy how fast that has gone by!

Anyway, this morning, I decided to create an audio for my peeps (you!) rather than doing a video today. I just didn’t FEEL like being on camera, but I really felt like I needed to talk to you J and so I did! Just as an audio, though, rather than on video!

I wanted to be honest with you like I always am. I honestly, when I opened and started the voice memo recording I was totally not quite sure what was going to come out of my mouth… but I knew it would be good and helpful because that’s just the way things are!! 😉

Imagine me, in my office with my airpods plugged in. I could hear the thud of my kid’s footsteps, just, through the ‘noise cancelling’. I looked around my office and what caught my eye? My very colourful poster that is choc-full of post-it notes where pretty much every problem I’ve had uttered to me, everything that people tell me they want, with every solution that I could offer sits.

Frameworks. Again. This morning, the F-word saved my butt! Hahhaa!

I remember being in a room a few years ago, where I saw a picture of a ‘model’ on the presentation that a speaker was making and it was so fancy! It looked like the gun-target that I used for slides I used at Sales & Marketing Spy School in 2013. You know the target that’s in a guns sight? Yep. One of those.

I had just finished writing ‘VISIBLE’ at the time and one of the things that I had struggled with during writing that book, was the idea of coming up with models or pictures that could describe and paint the picture of what I was talking about. You can imagine the three circles interlinked (like a ven diagram) or a pyramid where the bottom layer represents a higher volume of x and the top of the pyramid represents a smaller portion of Y. It could be that it’s about ascending from the lower to the upper… or like the BS ‘healthy food pyramid’ that we were all educated on through the 80’s/90’s and probably in to the 00’s.

I found it challenging to come up with some different imagery to visually demonstrate my thinking. However. Once VISIBLE was written, I found that I had become really quite proficient at it! Hhahaha!

When I saw this ‘target’ type of picture I tucked it away in the back of the head. It stayed dormant for a long time! Then out of nowhere, I was trying to work out a way to get on paper what I was thinking about for the next level of VISIBLE.

I called it ‘VISIBLE 2.0’. I used an A4 piece of paper and started literally stream-of-consciousness-styles of writing, downpouring and outpouring onto this piece of paper to create a logical and systematic way of helping people be seen as the ROCKSTAR of their industry.

This is how all of my free things end up being created. It’s like I just get in the zone and BAM! I generally have a picture or a diagram or a chart of something these days that fall out of me that I can use to help others understand what I’m talking about that they can then use to implement and get results!

So, this morning, I was staring at this fabulous colour wheel sitting on my wall and just started speaking.

I used that ‘chart’ to stay on track. To make things relevant. To feel inspired.

For me, once the first thought is created, everything else flows from there.

It’s like I have to find the first pebble that gets thrown into a still lake, creating the ripples from that drop in the water.

That’s how it felt this morning.

I just needed the pebble… and my framework was the thing that did it.

It’s actually quite funny when I think about it. I mean, I preach this stuff all the time!

“Have your things up and around you all the time that inspire you”

“Create your content map and rely on it when you’re struggling to create content”

“Don’t rely on your motivation to create what you need to create. Rely on the framework”

“Once you get going, the rest flows”

And here I was, taking my own advice! It’s pretty cool!

It was a great reminder for me, just how powerful a framework and a plan is. It reminded me that THIS has been so important for so very many people that I’ve trained in using this… and I’m going to keep training this stuff.

Because it makes life easier for EVERYONE who uses it!

So with that, do whatever it is that you need to do, to create a framework and a ‘safety net’ for yourself so that when you KNOW it’s time to share something, but you’re stuck for what to share and say… you have a zillion (yes. The statistical number) things around you that will help you!
