I was powering along on the treadmill this morning, combing my messy hair back up into a ponytail. Yes! A pony tail… at the top part of the back of my head.
It hit me this morning that I shaved my head 18 months ago at the same time as one my besties who was losing her hair due to chemo. I contemplated how this feels like so long ago and yet, at the same time, not that long ago! Time is so W E I R D!!!!
I’ve done all that I know to try and grow my hair back fast! Looked after it more. Yes, it’s blonde but there’s been a straightener used on it a grand total of perhaps 3 times and the use of a hair dryer is extra minimal.
With my hair, I know it grow around a centimetre a month. I don’t really think about it. I don’t try to make it grow. I just know it is and it will.
I’m studying right now and the module I’m working through talks about how the observed can change a result. Specifically, it’s around how something measured or observed is impacted by said observation.
- What we measure changes
- We should approach things like an experiment – test & measure
- Patience is necessary….but also trust
I find it curious about how this is relevant to so many things.
It makes me think about when I started this business in 2010. I wanted to make 100K per year. That was my initial goal.. and then to exceed that.
The thing was that I felt like I needed to make this FAST. I felt like I needed to do everything all at once. And so I took off like a bull in a china shop trying really ahrd to pull it all together.
It took a lot longer than I thought…. BUT…. I 10 X ’d that goal in just a few years! By taking step by step by step … I needed to find the patience to allow the process to unfold whilst also taking action at the same time. Trusting that I would get there.
IMPATIENCE vs TRUST
Impatience to me implies scarcity.. the fear can drive us to frenetic activity (non-aligned hustle).
You can be sitting in TRUST and taking action.. without being hung up on the outcome even when you need it – really need it!
It’s kind of like knowing that it will happen, taking action to bring what you want to life… yet at the same time doing your damndest to be ok with it taking however long it’s going to take for it come to life and for you to see the results you want.
To me, the five main things you need to be aware of are:
- Know what you want
- Take strategic steps to get there
- Trust you’ll end up where you’re ‘supposed to’
- Measure everything without emotion – data is data & can be used to make adjustments … be clinical about it!
- But also celebrate the wins
Making changes in your business so you can do more of what you want – and in the way you want – can take time. It will take consistency. It will take trust. It will take tenacity… but before you know it you’ll be ‘there’.
I have clients who have great 1:1 type businesses… a lot of whom see people in person. And it’s great. Until they run out of time and they’re not able to service all of the people that they really want to work with.
They see that there’s so many people out there that could be helping with an addition and shift/change some of the things that are being offered. Think: Books, online group programs, in person group programs, courses, guides and so much more.
The first step to shifting this – if this sounds like you – is to get clear on what you want as mentioned in the steps above. Get clear on what you want to do and how you want to do it. Then follow the next steps through.
You will need to embrace the online world. You will need to show up! You will need to let your audience get to know you (GASP! I know!!)….
But it’s a heck of a lot easier than you could imagine when you know what it is that you need to do.
They’re all waiting out there for you – and we can’t wait to cheer you on.
