It’s tough in this world where everyone is an expert behavioural coach when you hear quick quips everywhere like “Don’t be hung up on the outcome” or “Just keep going keep hustling” or “This is the secret sauce to xyz”….
The truth of the matter is that everything is subjective, and most things have an alternate reality that is also true.
The statement ‘Don’t be hung up on the outcome” is one that I have struggled with over time – some more than others. I resolved at the start of 2018 that no matter what, if it’s not FUN I’m not going to do it. From programs to fitness to activities that I was asked to participate in… therefore I’m somewhat hung up on the outcome of that, right?
To me it depends on the situation, because if you’re in a position where you actually want something, then, it’s almost like you’re fighting with yourself
If you have a pimple, a really big pimple on your face and you see it in the mirror and consider popping it. You might think “Oh gosh I don’t want it to scar” you’re automatically hung up on the outcome of the pimple popping experience!!!
It’s okay to worry about how you’re going to pop that sucker! You don’t want a scar. You want to be scar and blemish free. It’s ok!! It doesn’t make you vain or wrong….it means you care.
So what’s with the whole “not being hung up on the outcome of a launch’ fallacy? Of course it’s ok to want to be successful. To want it to work…to want it to get clients….
The clarification here, or the distinction is more about being ok with whatever result you get, even when you’re really wanting it to work.
To me, the distinction is around a) alignment and b) not being desperate. For instance, if you really ‘need’ $10K tomorrow, then that’s one thing… if you’re relying on sales that’s fine.
WE ALL RELY ON MAKING SALES, OTHERWISE WE DON’T HAVE A BUSINESSES, RIGHT?
The trip here, is to be ok with the results, come what may, whatever and however they show up.
It could get you $1K in sales, or $10K in sales of =$0K in sales… and what do you do then?
You learn, assess, pivot and go again.
And when you age $10K in sales, $50K in sales, $100K in sales, what do you do then?
Learn, pivot, assess and go again!
Your actions are going to be similar regardless of the tangible outcome either way… you’ve just got to be willing to getting back up…
