There’s always more to do..doesn’t mean you have to do more

There’s always something else you can do. An untapped resource, an extra ounce of energy.

This morning at the gym, I was observing how I was feeling about my workout. I was distracted at the start, which I found really annoying!!! I screwed up the timing on a couple of things and it was great reminder to be present and focus on what I was doing rather than thinking about the day ahead.

These days I rarely think about what’s coming up. I have my planner I rely on. I know what needs to be done: Journal, LIVE, blog, message and syndicate all of that out, pretty much! It’s not rocket science.

Add to that, client delivery, which I’ve purposefully created so much freedom around whilst giving them huge value.. it’s been the perfect balance.

For me, the beauty of doing things this way, has meant that my brain isn’t consistently on ‘go mode’.

I was asked this morning if I ever ‘switch off’… in the early years (circa 2009 / 2010) no way! And even before that, actually, in my jewellery business that I built. I was burning the candle at both ends and from the sides for a good couple of years and I found it ridiculously hard to witch off… which meant I burned out!

A few times. And it ain’t pretty, let me tell you.

These days though, whilst I think about my clients after hours, it’s not like I’m constantly in ‘go ode’. I have BALANCE – or my version of it, anyway.

These days, when I decide it’s tools down, it really is tools down. And I’m grateful that I’ve learned that skill, because truth be known, I could go all day and all night, but it doesn’t mean I’m being efficient or effective!

It pays to be present, to focus and make peace with the fact that there’s always more to do. More to say. More people you can connect with.

But that doesn’t mean it all needs to be done NOW. TODAY. In the next five freaking minutes… No!

When we’re done, you need to be done…and then stick to that. Walk away when it’s time. Be it 3pm, 7pm or 10pm!

I’m all up for the Hustle.. but the Anti-Hustle-Hustle is my style these days. Hustle for shizzle in the time you’ve got available…but don’t hustle 24/7, because you’re likely to burnout, and honey, that just is not pretty.

You’ve also got to find your way.

Some people can work and function amazingly well at 9pm at night to run trainings and do their marketing. Others do well at 5am or 6am or 5pm.

Make your work work for you. Not for how it works for someone else.

However. This advice comes with a caveat. Don’t wimp out, bitch out, whine your way out of doing what needs to be done, m’kay?

Get a list out of what you MUST do and then do it. If it takes 2 hours, it takes 2 hours. If it takes 10… then dig in and find a way to be more efficient and effective. Or just dig in and do it till it’s finished…

And when you’re done what you committed to, you find MORE to do… or you can not.

You’re in charge.

You’re the boss.

You rule the (your) freaking world, babe.

Do it your way.

An example of what I do daily:

• Workout
• Journal for alignment and message
• Draw in the creativity around me
• Tidy up/clean up bits and pieces (helps my brain!)
• Hang out
• Clear blockages
• Track money
• Client delivery
• Marketing x 10 things
• Sales activities
• Livestreams
• Email
• Syndicate all of that across media
• Hang out with the kids

And look if there’s something else that I should or could do and then do that if it feels aligned.

I could always be looking for more things to do, but honestly, there is always more. So it’s important for you to remain in alignment and do the things that you know you need to do and then let the rest go… unless you feel like you’re on freaking FIRE baby!

Xo
