I was chatting with a friend this week over breakfast, overlooking the beach as the waves came in, set after set, crashing. Looking beautiful. The beautiful resort. Great company. Everything was just EASY.
We were having a conversation about parallel universes., walking your talk and our values.
I mean, come on you guys! How many humans can you honestly have those kinds of conversations with over eggs in the morning. In my world, there are many, actually, but it hasn’t always been that way.
In fact, I’ve shrunk my circle significantly over time before looking at even thinking about bringing new/more people into my world.
One of the topics that we were talking about was integrity. Integrity, is my TOP top top value and driver. I always endeavor to do the best thing by me and y clients.
I always endeavour to walk my talk, every step of the way.
I know I’m also human, though, right? I know I fuck up and when I do I’m the first to admit it. And if someone else pulls me up on something, I don’t get defensive and say NOT! Fuck you! I always look to hear them out despite my desire to be a fully evolved human, I’m a work in progress!
I believe, when we’re in business, it’s so critical to walk your talk, because we’re in a role of a leader, a guide, a mentor, someone who others look up to and if we’re going out there pretending or acting like we’re 10000% perfect and we have all of the answers to all of the things, then…well… we’re actually setting THEM up for failure, which to me, is sacrilege and actually a gross act of misconduct.
It is not ok.
I want to tell you about a time when I was threatened by ex-clients to refund them or they’d sue me.
Yes, it happens. But not very often.
This particular case was after they’d been through an entire training of mine.
As these women were going through, realising (as I promised they would) that they’d need to actually implement the things they’d learned, they decided that “Nicola’s stuff / course didn’t work and wouldn’t work for me”…
You know that I stand by the fact that my processes, training and everything work like a dream, right, WHEN and only when, you do the damn work. These women didn’t to do that. It was ‘too hard’.
So I offered them a refund, provided they send me all of the work they’d done and implemented. I promised them that I when they implemented, if my programs and processes, despite my rock solid belief that it WOULD work for them, if we found that it in fact did not work for them, I’d fully refund them. I even offered them an extra 8 weeks of support, with me, 1:1 in order to help them to the best of my ability.
I put my ass on the line for about $40K
Yes. Forty thousand dollars. I was willing to put my ass on the ine and refund $40K.
I gave them the offer for the additional support for free, to ensure they’d get it done.
This, to me, was a win win. They had support. They had the training.
And the worst case scenario for them, is they’d be refunded, in full, in 8 weeks.
They said no
To me, this was the best way that I could stay in integrity with this situation.
Stand my ground, yet concede if they were proven to be the exception to the rule, that I’d refund/
I think most of us would agree that this is a pretty fair outcome, right?
I was threatened with them going to the media. Dragging my entire family through A Current Affair. They threatened a class action.
Honestly, it rocked me to the core.
I tried to do the fair thing the way that I saw it and they didn’t want to come to the party.
It took the wind out of my sails.
It had me questioning my ability to read people.
To make sales.
It made me question HUMANS as a whole. Because these women, when I spoke with them on the phone and enrolled them in my course (the way I do with EVERYONE I work with at that level), they were lovely! Driven. Motivated. Inspiring to me. They said they were willing and ready and able to do ‘the work’ that was required in order to get results.
I felt like this was just so unfair.
In the end, they withdrew their complaint. I hired a lawyer, naturally. And it was done. They faded into the background and went about their way. I had all of their comments, their call transcripts, their comments during the course giving me the reasons why they weren’t doing the work (partners and kids being sick, not having time to do the work). Office of Consumer and Business affairs said they’ve never seen notes like mine and that I was completely in the right.
I did not have to refund.
Where I’m going with this, and the reason I’m sharing this with you is that sometimes, no matter what you do, your BEST, your heart, your soul, your blood sweat and tears just won’t be enough for some people.
Ad that’s ok.
There may be people out there who will try to make you wrong. Try to bring you down. Blame you, rather than taking responsibility for their own actions or inactions.
It’s NOT a reflection on you. Or of your offers. Or your processes. Or your genius.
Some people are just odd.
I suspect that you’re like me.
Filled with dreams and the desire and drive to do the right thing by people. To ensure their clients get the outcome they want.
They put themselves on the line every day to become and be the person they were born to be, in order to serve the people who are needing what you’ve got.

Are you ready for the world to see THAT?
Here’s the thing: when you are fully being YOU, owning you, sharing you, putting you out there, there will be some people who come across you who are NOT the right people. The majority will be. (Some are just a special kind of crazy and you’re not obligated to work with them).
You’ll work out how to weed out the people you don’t want in your communities, tribes and programs if that’s what you’re doing. I’ll share with you EXACTLY where I went wrong with these women, so that you can be SURE that the standard is HIGH, that the people are RIGHT and that you have the ability to always always ALWAYS be doing your BEST FREAKING WORK.
The work that you’re here to do.
On the daily.
With the people.
All of the people.
No. All of YOUR awesome people.
The people who have been waiting for you for the entire lives to show up.
Let’s do it.
I’m starting on the 1st of March working with a select group of clients at a high 1:1 level. It’s not for everyone and that’s ok. It’s expensive, but perhaps not as expensive as you might think it would be. We’ll be together for 3 months doing all of the things that we need to do to catapult you out there.
I mean, we all like the happy ending, right?
And maybe, as I was saying to my friend, maybe in another parallel universe I took a different action…
But the result would have been the same.
I’m still here, biartches!!!
Alive and freaking kicking.

Despite ALL of the reasons to give up, to quit, to stop…. I didn’t.
