Welcome Australia, to the 6pm news. Not on Facebook!
Good evening everyone. By now, you would know that there aren’t any news outlets’ content being shown right now on Facebook. Yes, you can go and look for their pages and they ‘exist’… but you cannot view the content.
This is an interesting turn of events today, primarily I think because most people didn’t think that Facebook would DARE to eliminate ALL news sources from Australian’s on Facebook. You cannot even look at the overseas news if it’s been shared. (You can get around it using a VPN, but that’s a whole other thing that we’re just not going to get into today).
I could talk to you about the fact that I personally haven’t watched the news for years… in fact, the only thing I HAVE watched have been parts of news conferences that our state Premier has done when it comes to Covid and the restrictions in my state. (I’m in Victoria).
I could talk about the TOTAL BULLSHIT that has been shared on various ‘news’ channels and services and programs that I think are, well, questionable at a stretch! Sensationalism, throwing people ‘under the bus’ and all sorts.
I could talk about how happy I am, actually, that it’s gone from my feed.
I could talk about how pissed off I am that I don’t have the CHOICE to have it gone from my feed.
Butttttt I don’t really want to talk about that right now.
What I want to talk about is how this same thing could happen to YOU. Any time. Any day. Any day of the week… if the Zuk and his team of ‘people’ decide that you are someone who should not be doing what you’re doing, and you’ve been reliant on your GROUPS or your PAGES to generate sales and connection.. and if you haven’t been building an email list of the people who are following you…
Then you are playing with fire, friends.
The thing that people tend to forget first and foremost is that Facebook is an advertising platform. This is how they generate money so that it’s free for us to use. You don’t have to like it, but like my 12 year old son says: #FACTS
It is irresponsible of you to not be building up your email list.
It’s almost negligent. Sacrilege. Silly. Unwise.
But I hear you say “I get it, Nicola. But HOW??? And what? And who and when and WAHHHHHHHH”.
So here’s the thing you need to do.
Get your head into the space of the people you want to work with. Your ideal hot coal clients who need what you’ve got. The people you would LOVE to work with, all day every day for free because you love them so much and you love what you do. (You’re not going to do that. But if you had $Zillions in the bank, perhaps you would. Who knows!).
THEN, you are going to work out what it is that THEY think they want. What do they want? What do they think the solution is? ‘
THEN, you are going to help them to take the very first step to achieve that. For free.
Eg. “I don’t know how to build an email list” – I could create a free training, a document, a book, a PDF, a download, a webinar or something that explains what you would need to do in order to do this.
THEN, you are going to put it ‘out there’.. but in order for people to get that free thing, you’re going to ask them for their email address so you can email it through to them. (This will happen automatically, don’t worry! You’ve just got to set it up once and then let the tech do it’s tech thing!!).
THEN you can invite people into your group or to like your page or whatever…. And then you can help them in their inbox AND on social media.
If Facebook decided that there were to be no more pages allowed for coaches, what would you do? I’d cry, personally. And then get mad. And then start looking at the email list I talk to all the time! I’d look at one of my other platforms that I’m active on and double down.
But why do we wait for a crisis or something dramatic to happen to make us change?
Because we are humans! It’s interesting, isn’t it? I mean, for many of us, working from home 24/7 was something most businesses wouldn’t entertain. Even the thought of asking to work from home on a part time basis was unheard of. “Flexible Work” wasn’t really all that flexible for most.
However, with the dawn of a global pandemic, and almost every industry impacted, if you could work from home, you had to! People changed the way they work. They changed the way they commute. They change the way they LIVE.
Because there WAS NO CHOICE.
Right now, though, with social media and your marketing, YOU have a choice. The only one, really, that’s going to protect you moving forward: Make sure you create an insurance policy for yourself in the form of growing your email list.
Secondary to this, is to make sure that you’re present on more than one platform. So that if one gets shut down or removed or you get banned for a period of time, you still have a way of being able to communicate with your audience and your prospective clients.
Having a presence on the platforms available to us right now (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, ClubHouse, Snapschat, Tik Tok etc) is crucial. Select two or three to really create a presence on.
Creating a presence means you have to create content.
Creating content means you have to know you want to talk to, who you want to serve and who you want to help.
Creating content means you have to STEP INTO THE SPOTLIGHT and claim your space.
Honestly, this is something you cannot ignore.
This is something you must do, and do it now.
You’re amazing. You have so much goodness to do in the world.
You are a total Rockstar…. It’s about time the world sees you as one, too
So, my friend. Get out there. Go help some people have a ton of fun doing it.
