The Need To Reinvent & Set A New Standard

The need for us to reinvent ourselves multiple times throughout our journeys is never ending. That in itself requires a huge commitment if you think about it. You can’t just coast on the coat tails of your past efforts and assume that they’ll continue to work forever. After all, the people who are chasing your tail are going to end up doing the same things as you… so you have to innovate.

I caught a 5minute snippet of the Taylor Swift Americana documentary this morning (my daughters were lying on the lounge watching it as I walked out to an appointment) and there were a couple of points she made that I thought was super powerful.

Female artists reinvent themselves more often than male artists. That this alone takes commitment. She demonstrated that we’re all critical of ourselves and other people are a whole lot more critical of us more than ever.

We’re being called to be different but not too different otherwise we can’t understand you.

Be likeable but not too likeable.

Be a bit controversial but not too much…

The fact is, we still need to exist in a place somewhere between unleashing the FULLY expressed version of ourselves to the world… yet… at the same time, we feel like we can’t stray too far from where we are for the fear of getting it wrong. Which leads us to being misunderstood, trolled and hated on!

Be you but not too much you!

It’s exhausting. So my two cents is to just freaking own it and do whatever the hell you want, cause you’re going to be disliked or liked no matter what you do or how far you push the boundaries.

Interestingly, something else I’ve noticed over the past week or so, has been the power of sharing what goes on behind the scenes. People LOVE it. I personally love it! I feel like I’m getting a look at what’s happening that’s a bit less polished, a bit less edited.

The ‘now’ version of me, when I think about how to apply the next level into my own business, thinks that if I had a reality TV camera crew following me ever day, you’d all be bored shitless!!!

Oh look! She’s at the gym.
And there she is on the school run.

Hold up! Now we’re journaling…
And now she’s live…
Coaching, writing… to me it’s kind of blah blah normal! I’ll bet it’s how Taylor feels on a ‘normal’ day, too.

We take for granted our routines, our boundaries and our lives and the way we do things.

We think that we have to reach a certain stage before people start to find us interesting. Or watchable. Or whatever.

Yet, the things that we’ve seen play out have been that people love the ‘performance’ side to you, the polish, the glitz and the glamour, the shine, but they also love (and eat up) the grit. The rawness. The realness. They want to see the creative process. They want to FEEL like what you have – or what you help them to create – might be achievable for them, too.

TODAY is the day that you let ‘someday when I’ve made it further down the road’ shit to be GONE and it’s time, right NOW to step into that spotlight and showcase all of the things about you that you possibly can.

When it comes to marketing, most people stick to the CONTENT marketing. As in ‘these are the 4 steps to setting yourself free’ or ‘the 5 proven strategies to overcoming procrastination’ or ‘The 75Billion Ways To Sell High Ticket’ or ‘Stop! Don’t do that. Do these 23414938746 simple steps to success’…. I’m obviously having a bit of fun here, and yes. For some things, I will still write ‘The 7 Steps To XYZ’ particularly if I’m guest writing for someone.

Traditional content marketing will work. It will get you some new clients. That alone will help you to build and grow. And that’s amazing!!!

‼️ But if you want to INFLUENCE, if you want to be remembered, you’ve got to think past just the ‘processes’ and the binary 1’s and 0’s when it comes to really creating positioning in the marketplace.

It requires YOU to show up.

Not just with your teachings, not just with the steps and the processes, but also with your personality.

You need to step out from behind the curtain and allow yourself to be seen.

What’s exciting about this, is that it allows more scope for people to create an actual connection with you.

The Taylor Swift case study for example. Why’d you think she created a documentary?

Taylor swift is a business first and foremost. SO, let’s think about it strategically. The documentary was something that was created to reinforce her connection with her fans.

This will help:
a) Sell records
b) Sell concert tickets
c) Sell merchandise
d) Keep her in a job!!!!

Think about the number of concerts that are put on each year. People generally need to choose what they’re going to go to. They’re being discerning with their money and their time… if the artist can create a deeper connection with their audience, the payoff is that people might choose her over someone else. It keeps her in business.

Think like an artist. You need to create connection with your people.

Everyone these days is so spoilt for choice. What’s going to make them choose YOU over someone else?

YOU.

You need to differentiate to do that.

Own it.

The people need you.

In Eye of The Tiger I’m going to show you, teach you and support you so that you can make this happen for YOU.
