Good afternoon fabulous humans!
First of all…how are you? Like really… how are you?
There’s been quite a lot going on, don’t you think? Things feel like they’re starting to open up again… people seem to be moving about and things feel like they’re looking up – is that what you have noticed as well?
I feel like I need to catch you up on all things Nicola. I’ve had quite a lot on in recent times as I’ve shared with you before.
This past weekend saw me at a 3 day Roller Derby Extravaganza – also known as The Great Southern Slam. It’s the largest roller derby tournament in the southern hemisphere…. And it was EPIC!!! It happens every 2 years – but didn’t happen in 2020 thanks to The Rona. Sigh. But it’s back and just as fun.
I also got to catch up with family, Roller Derby friends and some non-roller-derby friends as well, which is always great. While catching up with some of our friends, I was asked if my business had been impacted by covid, to which, of course, I said yes.
I talked about the inability to lock in live events due to the uncertainty. I talked about how things have really changed in the last couple of years for me personally and how I’ve made some – in hindsight – quite big decisions around business.
You’ve heard this before from me, right?
The things that I WANT are:

❤️? To motivate people to BE the most they can be
❤️? To motivate people to get out of their own way
❤️? To take charge of their lives
❤️? To live a life less ordinary
❤️? To take chances
❤️? To take risks
❤️? To reap the rewards
❤️? To do what they want to do
❤️? To do things in the way they want to do it
❤️? TO HAVE FUN!
❤️? To live
❤️? To laugh
❤️? To learn
❤️? To grow
❤️? To do things in their way
❤️? To own your differences and your uniqueness
❤️? To own your similarities
❤️? To realise that there is no competition
❤️? To realise that there is more than ‘enough’ to go around – clients, money, etc
❤️? To own their inner badassery
❤️? To trust themselves
Ultimately, THIS is what I want…. This is why I do what I do.
And if that laundry list is what I want for YOU…. Then heck… I need to do it for me, too, right?
I was reminded over the weekend of doing things that create the JOY in what you’re doing.
Joy for me is working with badasses who want to change the world!!!! And people who are courageous. People who are changing lives.
Derby is joyful for me most of the time, too! It’s funny how these people who I love working with through work are also the people I love skating with!
One thing that I know, however, is if you want to live life on your terms… if you want to work with clients you want to work with, if you want to work with people you like, if you want to do things you love to do…..
Then you have to be visible! You have to be out there. You do have to put things out in front of your audience that demonstrate your values, your mission, your beliefs .. so that they can be magnetised to you and want to work with you. (Derby is no different! If you want to be picked for the team, you have to put in the effort and demonstrate through your commitment that you are IN).
When it comes to visibility for your business, we have a few things we MUST DO to stay in the feed of those we want to help and work with:
We have to educate people through our content.
We have to inspire.
We have to motivate.
We have to entertain.
It’s also important to show our audience our vulnerabilities, right?
But we don’t have to do it in a way that takes up every minute of your day.
Oh heck no.
Meaningful content, right?
….. Let me digress for a minute….
Soooooo I want you to imagine that you are able to work with someone you admire. Someone who inspires you. Someone you look up to. The most ‘famous’ person in your industry perhaps.
Now, imagine that you get to hang out with them for an hour or two and be coached or mentored by them. And you have this kind of ‘fan girl’ or ‘fan boy’ moment where you almost need to pinch yourself that it’s happening….
This past weekend I got to skate with Miracle Whips – a woman who skated for Canada. She now travels the world coaching and mentoring other skaters. Now, this might not seem like a huge deal to people outside of the skating world, but it’s a pretty darn awesome thing to have happen! She was approachable, normal, with a ‘light’ kind of air to her….. I had watched her on YouTube and the thing that I found surprising-but-not-really is that she seemed the same in person as she did online.
I have had people say this so much to me over the years “you’re exactly the same in person as you are online… just shorter!!!!!!!!”. (I had someone, literally on the weekend, mention when we were introduced that she knows of me from the internets! I didn’t ask her if I seemed the same in person, but let’s assume I did! Hahahha!!)
The thing about putting out good content that not only showcases your knowledge but also personality, is that it can shortcut the rapport building process when it’s aligned with who you are.
Visiblity these days isn’t just putting up some posts and faking it till you make it.
You’ve got to be you.
Interlace your educational content with stories.
Interlace the stories with examples.
Interlace all of the content with anecdotes.
Interlace the content with hints, tips and advice.
Use a freaking framework to do this.
It’s all in there… some people just need help pulling it out of their brain and getting it onto paper!
And yes, here’s the perfect segue for Visible Live….. I am headed to the Gold Coast at the start of July to run VISIBLE LIVE, a 2 day bootcamp followed by 5 weeks of support.
I am going to do one of the things that I do best: I am going to stick my metaphorical fingers inside your brain, pull out all of the good and amazing things out of your head that you can use to help people connect with you….
Then, we’re going to put it into a framework that is going to support you for the next 1-2-3-87986 years!
It’s all based on human behaviour, psychology and a ‘let’s add as much value as we can to our people’ attitude.
This stuff does not become ‘unworkable’ when The Algorithms change.
This stuff is TIMELESS.

So you remember I mentioned above about getting to skate with one of my skating heroes? It was pretty freaking badass!!!!!! I felt like a new born foal… I felt anxious… and I was nervous…. But she was amazing. My teamies were amazing. Once I got over that, I was able to watch, listen and absorb all of the goodness that was there to be had.
I reminded myself that this is what growth is all about. Being uncomfortable. Learning new skills, new things, new tricks, new ways of doing things… and to be open.
And that shit never gets old.
