ON OVERWHELM

You know when you have something to do and it can feel bigger than Ben Hur? It could be about making a decision.. about building your website creating content or even getting through the day…

I was sent the edit of my book last week, so I hastily whipped it off to Officeworks so I could have it printed and bound, so I could go through it and read at it stood and I was pretty happy with it.

My job from then, though, was to work through the word doc version and address all the edits, the comments, the withdrawals and the additions… but OH MAN…. I procrastinated on that job.

It felt big. I hadn’t checked how many comments there were, I hadn’t looked at how much I actually had to review, but in my imagination it was going to be MASSSSSSIVE.

I totally made a mountain out of molehill……

Because it’s all getting very real.

Despite having a book ‘out there’ already…

Despite having a ton of GREAT feedback about the first book and amazing, heart warming feedback from my publisher….

For me, I still had that little bastard of imposter syndrome kick in. I had overwhelm kick in. And I was ‘worried’ about even just starting the read through on my screen….

So here’s what I did.

I sat somewhere different. Somewhere comfy and warm.

I had the paper version next to me.

My son was playing on his Playstation next to me and I knew I had to just ‘eat that frog’ and dig in.

And so I did

It’s one thing knowing that people are going to be kind, it’s quite another experiencing it!!!

I decided to just go through it methodically and address each ‘thing’ as it happened and as it came up

I decided that no matter what, the book is going to be as good as it can be and I have a WHOLE TEAM around me to help!

I decided that overwhelm had no freaking place here and I was just going to put one foot in front of the other and do just one thing and then just one more thing.

I was reminded, as I got to the end, that this is how I’ve approached EVERYTHING that has overwhelmed me in the past: yep, it could be HUGE, but what is the Next Required Action that I need to take… and when that’s done, what’s the Next Required Action I need to take…. rinse and repeat.

Overwhelm can only exist when you’re idle…. so get in action, take that one next step and move forward from there.

<3 You’ve got this.
