MOST OF US NEED A PROJECT
There are many many things that need to be done, aren’t there? Like marketing. Websites. Imagery. Brand photos. Content. Delivery. Learning. EBooks. Copywriting. Guides. Quotes. All of the things!!! #Phew. It’s exhausting.
It’s no wonder you probably shelve stuff more than you’d like. I get it. When things feel huge to me, I often feel overwhelmed.
Additionally, when I can’t see the payoff or the reason why I’m doing something. See ya! I tend to just not do it, even if it sounded or felt good at the time.
I had to find a way, very early on, to simplify what it was that I was wanting to do. Or even what I was learning about at the time.
I remember when I first started running a business, way back when in 2006 I created a business where I imported jewellery and sold it at local markets, online and wholesaled it around the country. I was thinking that it was going to be a great way for me to make some extra money that could pay for a holiday each year for the fam. Or something like that. But man. It was hard work!
I taught myself how to build websites. I was learning how to use Facebook to grow it. I was managing the inventory. I was doing calls with people when new stock arrived. It was nuts.
But I was thriving.
Fast forward to 2010 when I started this business. I knew how to do some of the tech stuff, but almost everything else I was learning as I was going. All while juggling my 9-5 (Ha! Who am I kidding? 8-6p) job, trying to build this at the same time. It wasn’t working.
I needed to learn how to project manage myself.
Something I’ve refined over the years is the art of creating projects!
This is part of the reason I love launching. Because I can think it like a short term project, be completely immersed in it and LOVE the shit out of it. I bring the energy. The enthusiasm. The FUN!
If I think about it, a lot of the things I love about this business revolve around projects. Writing my books. Creating programs. Developing launches. Delivering the programs.
Projects are FUN!!
I like to do this in my personal life as well, actually! From renovation projects and other things that I find myself obsessed with at different times.
When I think about what I want to achieve over the year, and there are some big things and some not big things, I like to think of them in terms of projects. … my latest book is my current project – nearly done *eek*. I’m waiting for the next program to launch, which will be a very timely project….
My kids are back to school on Tuesday, so my homeschooling project is almost done! (Which I’m actually disappointed about).
What about you?
Have you thought about shifting your focus on the things that need to be done and giving them pet project names to get you inspired and motivated?
<3 Short term focus points are important to building momentum and productivity.
What projects are you working on?
