ON SELF BELIEF
Let’s talk about belief. Specifically self belief.
IN a world where there are many people who are poised, aimed and ready to slam you, try to shame you and bring you back down to earth with their “Who do you think you are?” and “Do you really think you can pull that off?” and “There’s already a million people out there doing it, what makes you different?”…
TO
“You’re a mouthy, self absorbed f*cking idiot” and ”blonde bimbo with black roots and oversized glasses who doesn’t know what she’s talking about” …
How do we get the courage to face up, front up and share what we need to share in order to market ourselves and our businesses?
It doesn’t always happen… but if you think about it, the larger our audience grows, the more people who follow us, by law of numbers, we are going to get a larger volume of people disagree with us and some become vocal.
All of this can shake you up, if you let it… and if you’ve just started out, and you’re a first time blogger, vlogger, Facebook LIVE-er, creating posts, perhaps putting out a ‘free thing’ or trying to sell a program…
This shit can knock you about for hours, days, weeks and even sometimes months…
I loved seeing Constance Hall sharing openly about her experience and decision to go on Dancing With The Stars… I was appalled at the venom that was directed at her. To see some of the things said to her didn’t just infuriate me… it scared me, for her. I mean, gosh. The things some humans say to others is just awful.
Take a look at Clementine Ford as another example. Particularly opinionated, like or loathe her, nobody deserves the abuse getting thrown on a daily basis.
If you’ve been in business for a while and you’ve been putting yourself out there, it can be hard to up the ante… particularly if you’re in a period of growth or reinvention, right?
If you’re new to business and marketing yourself to increase your VISIBILITY, it can be even worse because, you don’t have the evidence to back it up yet, that the people ‘out there’ will resonate with what you’re saying and how you’re saying it.
Where it becomes challenging is when you’re feeling vulnerable, right?
Embarking on something…
Trying something different…
There are always worries lurking in the back of your mind “will this work? How long will it take? What will my peers say? What if someone rips off my stuff? What if I sound like an idiot”…
This is the space where vulnerability and courage meet. Doing it despite the fears, worries and concerns.
So what’s the answer? How do we combat it and do what we need to do to get ourselves out there despite all of this
- You need to own that you have these fears. Welcome to the human race!!! Anyone who is looking at extending themselves has them.
When you’re levelling up just like when you’re starting out.
- Get people around you who will support you, encourage you and remind you of who you are when you forget… or if someone comes ‘at you’. Get these people in place NOW so that they’re if and when you need them.
- Practice unshakeability.
It’s a thing. Hold yourself physically like you’ve got this. Literally active your core and FEEL it.
Hold yourself internally like you’ve got this. Feel it on the inside and say “I’ve got this”.Be BOLDLY CERTAIN in your message.
The BOLD move is to practice GRACE.
Fierce grace, if and when something comes your way that you don’t expect. This does not mean that you don’t deal with it. It doesn’t mean shrugging it off.
It means activating that BOLD CERTAINTY that what you have done is RIGHT, that you have said is right, and that what you are doing is right.
