The Grass Is Greener – NOT
What is it that moves you and inspires you into action?
Is it a kick in the ass and being elegantly called out when you’re not doing what you know you ‘should’ be doing?
Is it being motivated by the thought of achieving a goal or hitting a new milestone?
Is it by having fun?
Conducting experiments?
Trying things on?
Dressing up? Playing?
Or is it more about planning and strategizing and then nutting out the tactics you’ll use to get the shizzle sizzling?
Is it stories of people who have gone through hard shit and survived?
Is it the facts and figure and less of the story telling?
Is it imagining, visualising and focussing on what the fruits of your labour will provide or is it the surprise at what will happen next without any set of expectation?
Adventure?
Spontaneity?
Certainty?
Planned?
Variety?
Structure?
Does classical music move or you or bore you?
Does pop music make you move your body or make you roll your eyes?
Does the thought of hanging out with people make you jump out of your skin with anticipation or with dread?
What really MOVES you to take ACTION?
Accountability?
Knowing someone else will say ‘Hey! You said you were going to do xyz … what happened” and there’s no way you’d want to find yourself in that position?
Or are you more moved by something else?
By being of service to people?
Creating impact?
By being of positive influence in someone elses’ life?
Doing this and getting paid?
OR
Doing this even if you didn’t get paid?
My People are people who would be doing what they’re doing in one way shape or form even if they never got paid again for doing it…
They’re driven – yes, by making money – but also by creating and inspiring change in others or within organisations.
Even if it meant they were ‘doing’ something else, there’d be elements of what they’re doing now in it…
Why?
Because it would kill our souls to not.
Anything less than doing work we love, we enjoy and that’s in our zone of genius would be like torture.
I’ve had ideas along the way, when money wasn’t excellent (for loads of reasons) and entertained the thought of doing something else. Like renovating. Or going back to banking…..
But even in those fantasy-land ideas, I’d still be wanting to do what I do now:
• Speaking with people
• Educating
• Motivating
• Inspiring others to live their Best Life.
To remind them that they’re more than ‘just’ their title, their job, their business, their family or their financial status and that with courage and a universe size truckload of determination, you can be, do and have all that you want.
And every time I’m swayed by the “grass is greener” thoughts I always come back to centre and realise this:
I couldn’t NOT keep doing this and it’s preposterous to even consider another reality.
And with that, I give myself a kick up the ass and show up, turn up and focus on serving YOU;
On moving you.
On encouraging you.
Educating, inspiring, motivating, teaching and helping you…
And the joy returns.
Now I’m certain, that this is what you do for your people, too, yes?
That, like me, you probably inspire Your People and look to move them in various different ways. From accountability, to calling them out, to giving them an oft loving kick in the pants and a swift reality check because you don’t buy into their bs…
