The Show
I was sitting in my office just after lunch time today, pondering on what I was going to share with you today.
And all I could think of, was this: “I’m stuck. So stuck.” [And so I decided to start writing about feeling stuck, the mechanics of it and how to release it. This is what came out].

Feeling stuck sucks, doesn’t it?
You know you have something share with the world, but it’s like you can get….well… word-constipation.
Plugged up.
Pressure building.
I was sitting in my office earlier this week, having a conversation with my 17 year old daughter about childbirth.
The no-holds-barred-conversation, because, like in business, I believe in the no-holds-barred approach to parenting.
Love or loathe, in my experience of 17+ years, 3 kids in tow, this no BS ‘The Good, The Bad, The Ugly and The Beautiful ‘approach means we can – and do – talk about anything and everything. Sometimes it happens 1:1, sometimes over the dinner table, sometimes on our walks.
Nothing is too taboo to discuss.
So, anyway. We were talking about the birthing process and what physically happens to a woman’s body.
With her, I started having contractions early on a Thursday morning – around 7am.
They grow progressively closer together, stopped and then restarted again. But what I talked to her about was how the body prepares for the actual laboring and the process that we go through.
I went through with her, how it starts with ‘The Show” – the release of the mucus ‘plug’ at the cervix. I explained that the removal or the ‘plug’ is essentially the sign that IT’S ONNNNNNNNN!!!
And how, from there, ‘usually’ things kind of amp up and start progressing.
We talked about the waters breaking, contractions getting stronger, and how, there’s not too much you can do, but to ride it all out
We talked about how it wasn’t until MIDDAY the next day that she crowned. Yes. Around 12pm on the Friday. I had been having contractions since 7 am Thursday morning! This girl was like a starfish in my womb. She DID NOT want to come out!
I told her that when her head came out it hurt like a motherfucker!!! I had only gas at that point (the pethadine that was administered at around 7am had completely worn off). And that once the shoulders were out, though, she just kind of fell out of me.
I talked about we’re built, to somehow, play down/forget the pain and crazily we sometimes go back for more! Well, I did, 2 more times!!!!
To me, creating your message, creating content, heck, BEING YOU, is like going through childbirth.
We have the idea = conception.
We let it percolate = pregnancy
We have Braxton Hicks – testing some stuff, but not going ‘the whole way’. Kind of like dipping your toe in the water.
“The Show” = Finally letting the fuck go of the plug that’s holding everything in.
The crowning = the first push of you getting out there.
The shoulders = doing your best to be consistent. But it still hurts!!!
After that, it’s just EASY and it all falls out of you.
Of course, from there, we mature it, grow it, play with it, expand it, feed it and become even more amazing year on year.
We look at this ‘thing’ we birthed and shake our head that we could create something so perfect and beautiful.
We created something that is changing the world just with its presence.
Rebel with a Cause is this. The releasing of “The Show”.
The birth of YOU. Or the rebirth, if you will.
So you can get YOU, the beautiful, engaging, sassy-pants YOU out into the world, so we can all be graced by your presence, your knowledge, and your wisdom
