The Thieves
There is never a good time to let the inconvenience of external events or internal things messing up your shizzle. Never. Ever. The internal stuff can be the worst, though.
That which we allow to rock us and thwart us will ultimately lead to our self destruction…
Sounds a bit ominous, right?
Well, it’s a reality check if we’re honest with ourselves.
If we think for a moment about all the things that we want / need to do:
Write
Blog
Vlog
Film
LIVESTEAM
Mentor
Answer questions
Formulate plans
Deal with staff
Facilitate
Deliver
Do the do
Coach
Market
Sell
Journal
Wash
Shower
Kids
Animals

Connect
Entertain
Follow up
Parent
Friend
Organise
Create
Paint
Draw
Self care
Eat well
Exercise
Work out
Toilet
Manage
Staff
Bank
Juggle
Rest
Sleep
All. Of. The. Things.
There are a lot that we either need / want to do along with a lot that we might have to organise so others can do the things…
It’s a lot…
Now, from a business perspective, these external / internal things that if left unchecked can look a bit like the enemies of time.
I like to refer to these as the thieves of time.
The thieves of time are the things that come up when you’re doing / allowing things to come up that aren’t contributing to your ultimate goal to rock you and throw you off your track. They’ll knock you off your rails. Throw you off your game.
These thieves are also commonly disguised as little sneaky ideas that are more like brain farts than ideas – hello shiny things! Be mindful that not every idea needs to be acted on!!!! It’s a thief in disguise!
The big thing I really want to impress upon you today, is that we all have a choice.
We all have distractions (just look at that basic list that I put up before. Much of that is applicable to all of us). We all have things that niggle, excite, tempt us away from doing what we are really here to do…
And do you know what that is?
You being able to show up and do what you’re here to do.
Now, I know how weird that may sound, believe me. I also know that there are things that you want to say and share, yet you don’t.
Maybe because you don’t want to damage your reputation or have to spend time explaining things. You don’t want to go about pissing people off or create a revolt. You don’t want to look silly, awkward, ugly, too pretty, flamboyant…whatevs it is for you.
Maybe you don’t want to share the other side of you who loves designer things or who loves to upcycle (I love both btw, but tend to err more on the designer side of the fence!!!).
Some will ay [NOTE: Another thief of time] that you’re too brazen, bold, maverick-ish, materialistic, judgey, soft, squishy, focused, intense, ambitious, loud, quiet, professional, rough….
And you know what?
Maybe you are all of some of these things, and that’s ok! Your job is to just be you and avoid the thieves of time, the thieves of joy, the thieves of confidence and the thief of focus.
And if you do come into contact with one or all of these little bastards, tell them where to go and get back to doing what you need to.
There are many other thieves that we need to be aware of as well, in our day to day lives and sometimes they are so freaking amazing and rolling like they’re with us – like a really good undercover cop who infiltrates the baddies to learn their wicked ways. This next one is like that. We don’t even necessarily realise that they’re until they bit us on the ass….
As I was writing this, I was thinking ‘really? Is this what I really am supposed to be writing about today? Really’? The thief of certainty raised it’s head.
The way that I blog is different to a ‘conventional 1+1=2’ way of blogging much of the time. Sometimes I do resort to a more formulaic style but for the most part, I tap into what I believe people need to hear today and start writing.
I’m someone who is usually a “Yes! This is what needs to be said and this is how it needs to be said” and today… well… it just felt a little clunkier.
Less smooth…
Less flowy…
And I noticed 2 things:
- The thief of certainty
- The thief of confidence
I mean, what if I write something that is crap? Or makes no sense. Or demotivates rather than motivates. #StabThroughTheHeart. What will they think of me?
BAM.
That last one. That’s the dead give away right there.
The thief of confidence and certainty
Motherfucker.
At this moment, the way I see it is this: I have 2 choices.
I screw it up, toss it out, obliterate what I’ve written. Toss it in the bin.
This is an option.
OR
I can choose to tell the thieves to go away and share whatever it is that‘s come through me and trust in what I’m doing.
Always trusting in the message.
Always trusting in the process.
Always trusting in alignment.
Trusting the intention that was et at the start, at the start of every time I write: What do the people who I’m calling in need to hear today?
And from that question, from that prompt, the rest flows on out.
Don’t listen to the thieves.
Stay on track.
Focus on your job.
Do the things that needs to be done when they need to be done
Always trust alignment.
